Forum On Public Shooting Preparedness Will Be Held In Port Jervis

Residents or businesses concerned about being caught in an "active-shooter" event, an upcoming event sponsored by local police agencies will offer life-saving techniques.

Hosted by the Port Jervis Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Deerpark Police Department, the seminar will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at the Erie Hotel’s Trackside Manor, 1 Jersey Ave., Port Jervis.

 The seminar will go over life-saving techniques to utilize in the case of a public shooting and will cover three separate topics on how to react.

 The first topic will be on how to survive an active shooting. This will also include a video as well as a demonstration on what to do. Afterward, they will be talking about how to recognize a suspicious device and what to do in a situation if you find one. The last topic is an overall awareness of what to do in case of any shooting occurring in a variety of settings and public areas. 

“Through collaboration and teamwork with our community partners, the men and women in law enforcement work every day to work collaboratively to provide the very best of public safety services to the residents and visitors of our community to make this city a safe place to live, work and raise a family,” said Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden. 

Over the course of the seminar, there will be light refreshments.
